Unfunny comedians

I had the misfortune to watch two of the worst comedians on the planet at the Albert Hall on Tuesday
Rogesh Ranganathan - his act is basically him shouting fuck and bollocks every other word like a schoolboy on the back of the bus and the only remotely funny part was his impression of an indian takeaway waiter..
However, Stuart Lee ploughed an even lower furrow with a morbidly creepy unfunny show- he started of to mild titters and ended in silence- how does this cunt even get billed as a comedian!?
I actually finally got John Bishop - he was good, albeit he's a scouse cunt and I knew all of his jokes- he does tell them well tho..

He definitely tones his stuff down a bit in the DVDs I've seen of shows in America I reckon.
It's hard to describe, it's not so much what he says it's more the way he's saying it.
Or maybe I'm just looking too much into it.

Jim Jefferies is the only comedian I like any more, still watch his stuff on youtube every now and again. his stuff in America isn't as good because he can't do his bits on religion and other stuff that the yanks are all far too sensitive about

I watched Mcintyre Saturday and him and Widdecombe trod the same well worn path when it came to material, but it was Saturday night itv, it was never going to be cutting edge stuff was it? I don't think it was aimed at anyone hoping it would be.

Gonna sound a bit weird but I don't really find George Carlin funny.
99% of what he says I actually agree with, but some people seem to find it absolutely hilarious.
May be a generational thing, or an American thing.
Saying that kind of stuff might be shocking to some but nowadays it's just normal regular opinions.

Jim Jeffries is quite funny.
Thing is a lot of people hear all the swearing and "shocking" stuff and think automatically that that's his entire act.
Can't really win, shy away from all that and you're a coward, or embrace it and get accused of relying on it.

Widdecombe is shit and Mcintyre is straining out ideas to get a slither of a laugh.
The comedy circuit has died a death, very little quality coming out these days.

It may be just me, but I find I'm quite bored by the majority of what I see, certainly on television.
It does seem to have become quite formulaic, with many adopting similar styles in terms of how they deliver their material. I can't really remember the last time I saw somebody that didn't remind me of someone else, both in terms of style and content.
I haven't been out to a comedy show for a while, but I wouldn't mind a few recommendations, as long as they are at least a little bit different from the 'samey' masses.

I thought that Raganathan's series on Sri Lanka was good in parts.
A lot of its humour was in the situation though - a first generation Brit being freaked out by the culture of his parents' homeland.

There is very much a split camp when it comes to Stewart Lee, the Oxbridge mob, for he can do no wrong, could honestly read the phone book out and they'd find some genius subconsciously tucked away in there somewhere, these people do have a monopoly on the TV, you're with Off The Kerb, Avalon, and to a lesser degree Hannah Chambers and Christian Knowles or you're a nobody. Then you have the circuit comics who are playing the Jongleurs/ Up the Creek etc's who generally think it's all a bit emperors new clothes!

All the "Mock The Week" crowd then! They do seem paticularly poor. Are standups as divided on Stewart Lee asd people are on here? I imagine his constant distain for the comedy panalist type of comic gets peoples backs up.

Josh WIddacombe was on that Mccintyre programme last night. Once you get on 'live at the apollo' you are sorted, that audience will laugh at anything.

As a pro jobbing comic on the circuit I'm finding this thread fascinating reading! There is honour amongst theives, however the Ragnathan success story has nigh on every circuit comedian scratching their head in disbelief! You can add Carl Donnelly Ellis James and Josh Widdacombe to that list,

If I had to name the unfunniest person who is masquerading as a comedian, it would be that lurch cunt Greg Davies. He makes me cringe when he's on anything. At least with cunts like Bishop, he probably understands what he is, but that ugly cunt thinks he is the funniest man alive, I've heard funnier serial killers interviewed.
